Why is it...

that we put Ketchup on Fries, and butter/sour cream on baked potatoes? Discuss.

Because ketchup is a topping while sour cream and butter are ingredients that enhance the potato. They bring out its natural creaminess when the potato is in its baked state. A french fried potato is a potato that has been cut down to pieces, stripped of its natural qualities and turned into a hardened entity, unrecognizable by its starchy family. It will never be like other potatoes; soft and creamy. It can only pretend to be this new thing, a french fry. ...accessorizing with ketchup so it can feel new, whole and so it can have a new sense of self but really, it's just a deformed potato. I pity french fries.
